The following data help understand the socio-economic situation of the Royal Docklands.
The London Borough of Newham is one of the most deprived borough of London, experiences many issues with poverty and inequality. Although the Royal Docks are not the most deprived are of Newham or London, it still faces many of the same issues. A particular issue of the area is the lack of available and affordable housing. Data shows that almost 20% of households in the area are currently overcrowded.
The regeneration project should aim to take the economic context of Newham and the closer area into consideration. The design for the redevelopment should successfully address the needs of the local area by providing adequate housing numbers, including provision for affordable housing, and new economic opportunities for the local community.

This data suggests the redevelopment should direct great focus to the needs of this demographic.
Tenure Mix:
An understanding of the current tenure mix highlights the property market of the local area and can aid in planning for the housing need.
From this chart we can see, that the sections for privately rented, owned with a mortgage or loan and rented from the council are the largest in Newham.
This suggests the housing prices are too high for local residents to afford.
